Meeting 2011

In 2011 Karachi Medical and Dental College had the honor to hold the meetings of Karachi Bioethics Groups. On average 20 to 30 members usually attended the meetings.
In first meeting, some discussion was done on medical errors and negligence while the committee responsible for the development of Pharma-physicians guidelines discussed its developments, two occasions i.e. Dental Conference and a Seminar on Muslim Women had been informed to members in April meeting, reports had been submitted about the KBG stall and presentation at Dental Conference, some financial developments on PPI guidelines and a major discussion been done on young doctors strike in Punjab.
Next meeting constitutes about the development on Medical errors and PPI guidelines manual, reports of ERB workshop which led the great discussion on the role of current ERBs IRCs in Pakistan especially in CDGK and Karachi. Members also showed there reservations on few agenda points.
A Euthanasia Case of Indian Supreme Court in which Aruna Shanbaug's euthanasia plea was rejected discussed in August meeting and Evening Medical College issue had been discussed, member showed there strong reservations on evening medical teachings and planned to write in media about KBG stance on individual basis.
In October meeting the core issues discussed was on cultural beliefs and their role in bioethics, an article was presented on end of life care decisions and ethical issues discussed on bio eradication. Some moral discomfort thoughts were also discussed. Members decide to emphasize on Institution Ethics in future meetings.
In December, PPI guidelines development which were in there final stages were discussed, Locum appointments especially CPSPs role was discussed, Public health ethics and institutional ethical issue were presented and discussed. Venue for 2012 was also discussed.
