The host for the KBG meetings for the year 2006 was AKU. The salient features of KBG activities in this year included a press release on an incidence reported widely in the press and the media of a “stolen kidney.” A patient had lodged a complaint with the police that a surgeon in a private hospital had removed his kidney while performing surgery for his gall bladder.
The press release highlighted the need to protect patient rights, create mechanisms to curb such activities, and the moral obligations of physicians toward patients to restore the credibility of the medical profession.
